Coach the
Aim High way.
A successful youth coach is measured by how many kids want to come back next year.

Playing time
Every player plays at least 3 quarters and sits at least 7 minutes, unless you only have enough players to field a team. Mandatory and enforced.
Not winning at all costs
The obsession with winning drives kids out of sports and doesn't prepare them for sports or life.
Fun first
Kids love to compete, but the fun and excitement of competing is what keeps them coming back.
Practice
Kinder/1st: one practice a week required, a second optional. 2nd/3rd and up: one required, a second optional.
Coaching is teaching.
Learn names fast
Learn every player's first and last name as soon as you can. Name tape or labels on jerseys speed it up and help kids feel comfortable.
Don't forget the basics
Not every kid knows the game yet. Teach the fundamentals without overwhelming them, and pay attention to how much each player needs.
One step at a time
Use drills that build steady success. Short throws before long passes, so players stack wins and look forward to the next skill.
Get their attention
Kids will be kids. Get attention before you demonstrate, and bring the energy. If the coach isn't excited, the players won't be either.
Practices
One practice a week is required. Pick a day and time, share it by email and stick with it. You can't please everyone.

Pre-game warm-ups
Arrive early to warm up, and check that equipment and uniforms are worn correctly.
Everyone plays
Nobody signed up to watch. Use a substitution system, stick with it whatever the score, and share it with parents.
Positive reinforcement
Praise good play in front of the team. Correct quietly and privately.
Halftime
Water and encouragement for every player.
Sportsmanship
Model respect, take questions about calls to officials privately, and shake hands after every game.

What every family should know.
Coaching conduct
Each season we meet with all coaches, Kinder through high school, to review Aim High's goals and rules. Any issue brought to us is handled right away, in person or by email, and we take coach conduct very seriously.
Playing time and positions
Our rule book sets playing-time guidelines, and it's a top priority: every player gets a chance on the field. Coaches get to know each player's strengths and help them grow over the season.
Sportsmanship and competition
Our first goal is teaching flag football skills safely in a positive learning environment. We don't push kids to win; we teach a winning attitude and support for both teams. Every Saturday, they should leave knowing they tried their hardest and that we believe in them.
Know the signs.
If your child takes a bump or blow to the head during a game or practice, watch for these signs. When in doubt, sit them out.

- Feeling sluggish, hazy, foggy or groggy
